A Safe Spot for Real Talk

Real Talk, Fun Times, No Judgment

Real Talk Spot is a fun, low-pressure evening hangout for teens 13–18 and young adults 18–21 in the Roscoe/Rockton area.

It’s meant to be the spot where you can just relax — play games, grab snacks, chat with friends, try fun creative stuff like improv or music sharing, and hang out without anyone making it feel heavy or awkward.

We also want it to be a safe place where real-life questions can come up naturally. At the end of each session there’s an anonymous suggestion box where anyone can drop in a topic or difficult question they want to talk about (no names, no pressure). The next session I’ll give a short, non-religious talk based on what the group wants to hear — whether it’s stress, relationships, mental health, substance issues, future worries, or anything else from real life experiences.

Life’s hardships don’t have an age limit, and some topics may not feel suitable for everyone — that’s okay. The overall vibe stays fun and low-pressure, with no judgment and no one forced to participate. Resources from local organizations (like YSN, Rosecrance, and 988) will always be quietly available if anyone needs more support.

We also have a Young Adult Transition Lounge for 18–21 year olds to talk about life after high school — independence, jobs, relationships, and keeping that sense of community.

We ask for a voluntary contribution of $0 – $150 per month to help cover snacks, supplies, and space. Choose whatever amount works for your family — no one is turned away if you can’t contribute, and higher amounts help keep the spot open for everyone.

Why It’s Needed

In Roscoe and Rockton, many teens and young adults don’t have a dedicated, non-sports space where they can just hang out and talk honestly about what they’re really going through. School, social media, family expectations, and the pressure to “have it all together” often leave little room for the deeper conversations that matter most. Too many young people feel isolated or unseen — especially those who don’t fit into traditional activities or are navigating life after high school.

When high school ends, that support often disappears right when life gets even more complicated. Real Talk Spot aims to change that by creating a fun, safe evening spot where teens and young adults can relax with snacks and games, be themselves, and talk about whatever’s on their minds — without judgment or pressure. It’s a place where difficult questions can come up naturally, and resources are quietly available if anyone needs more help.

Our goal is simple: help young people feel welcome, heard when they want to be, and a little less alone — one real conversation (and a lot of good hangs) at a time.

Current Status

We are still in the planning stage — gathering interest, recruiting board members, and preparing to launch. Evening sessions (Tuesday & Thursday 7:00–9:30 pm) will begin once we have enough community support and resources in place.
