About
About Real Talk Spot
Real Talk Spot is a fun, low-pressure evening hangout for teens 13–18 and young adults 18–21 in the Roscoe/Rockton area.
It’s meant to be the spot where you can just relax — play games, grab snacks, chat with friends, try fun creative stuff like improv or music sharing, and hang out without anyone making it feel heavy or awkward.
We also want it to be a safe place where real-life questions can come up naturally. At the end of each session there’s an anonymous suggestion box where anyone can drop in a topic or difficult question they want to talk about (no names, no pressure). The next session I’ll give a short, non-religious talk based on what the group wants to hear — whether it’s stress, relationships, mental health, substance issues, future worries, or anything else from real life experiences.
Life’s hardships don’t have an age limit, and some topics may not feel suitable for everyone — that’s okay. The overall vibe stays fun and low-pressure, with no judgment and no one forced to participate. Resources from local organizations (like YSN, Rosecrance, and 988) will always be quietly available if anyone needs more support.
We also have a Young Adult Transition Lounge for 18–21 year olds to talk about life after high school — independence, jobs, relationships, and keeping that sense of community.
Everything runs on a sliding-scale fee ($0 – $150 per month) so no one is turned away due to cost.
Our Story
I’ve always wanted to create the kind of supportive space I wished existed when I was younger. I've seen how many young people struggle in silence. This program is that safe spot — built for local teens who need real talk, connection, and support.
What Makes Us Different
• Non-religious and non-clinical — just caring adults who listen.
• Sliding-scale fees ($0–$150/month) so every family can participate.
• Separate Transition Lounge for 18–21 year olds to help with life after high school and continuing support where most programs leave them vulnerable
• Evening schedule (Tue/Thu 7:00–9:30 pm) that fits real life.
• Background-checked volunteers and clear safety policies (mandated reporting explained upfront).
Our Goal
To create a fun, safe spot where teens and young adults feel welcome, heard when they want to be, and a little less alone — one real conversation (and a lot of good hangs) at a time.
We are currently in the planning stage — gathering interest, recruiting board members, and preparing to launch. Evening sessions (Tuesday & Thursday 7:00–9:30 pm) will begin once we have enough community support. (Days subject to change based on interest/needs)
