DISCLAIMER

Real Talk Spot is currently in the planning and formation stage. We are not yet holding regular sessions or operating as a full program. All information on this site reflects our intended vision and is subject to change as we build something meaningful for our community.

This is an independent community initiative and is not affiliated with any school district. The founder’s custodial employment at Hononegah is disclosed for transparency; the program operates separately from his job.

Our Commitment to Safety and Care

Real Talk Spot is a supportive space for open conversations, not therapy or professional counseling. Our adult facilitators are caring listeners with completed background checks, but they are not licensed therapists.

All facilitators and volunteers are mandated reporters under Illinois law. If anyone shares information about abuse, neglect, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, or any situation suggesting danger to themselves or others, we are legally required to reach out for help. Our priority is always keeping young people safe.

We encourage anyone struggling to also connect with professional support, such as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline or local counseling services. We’re here to listen and help connect you to resources when needed.

Sliding-Scale Fees

Fees are determined on a sliding scale ($0 – $150 per month) based on family income and self-attestation. No one will be turned away due to inability to pay. Higher payments from those who can contribute help keep spots accessible for everyone.

Participation

Participation is voluntary. Real Talk Spot and its board members strive to create a safe and supportive environment, but we are not liable for any outcomes related to discussions or referrals.
